Gender Trouble
When I first thought about the concepts of sexuality and gender, I was very impressed by Judith Butler’s book “Gender Trouble”. Our gender, which we find ourselves trapped by what society teaches us, the distinction between men and women, and our disappearance into definitions and distinctions… Since I focused my dance life on “feminine energy”, there is a situation that I have encountered even more: a general judgment about my teaching about “femininity”. I have expressed this many times in my every article, every video post or in my daily life. However, established perceptions are so moldy that; It’s hard to get into them. Let’s expand this perception a bit.
The issue that gender is a social code, not a biological assignment, and that it is a sociological imposition that determines what gender brings has been on the agenda more and more lately. We do not talk and discuss this very widely in Turkey yet, but the awareness of queer theory is increasing around the world. The point here is to include queer theory in life and everyday life, rather than discussing it as a theory. Getting rid of this gender scourge in our actions. To be able to experience life from a more “self” place.
Of course, I do not reject genders, sexual orientations or statements that we consider appropriate. I experience this life as a woman, I see my body as a woman’s body; From the outside, I maintain my bilateral relations with a heteronormative perception. But I know that this is not my only reality, I do not define myself by being a woman or having a woman’s body. We do not already own our bodies, we accompany our bodies; or our bodies mediate us in this world. Having a sexist line in the ways we use to defend certain rights is like tripping ourselves.
That’s what I call myself; What is my gender, profession, age, how many children I have, shape/type of my body… what is it? What is my real me, my real existence?
“Hello, I’m Buse, I’m a woman.” Am I not setting a limit for myself when I say it? This is not a rejection of femininity; knowing that there is no gender in this essence. My essence may be manifesting as a woman in this world; but if I cling to it, if I give too much meaning to being a woman: femininity begins to weigh on me.
The era is gradually evolving towards a genderless place, and I think that in a not too distant time, our gender stereotypes will become more permeable and we will expand to a place where we cannot define ourselves through sexual orientation. We all agree that the focus changes with the acceleration of consciousness in the Z generation and alpha generation.
Gender begins to show as we descend, but as we no longer experience the world from animal consciousness but from above; We will move into sexual and transgender realms in consciousness. We will take our animality with us, we will accept it, but we cannot resist transformation. The sooner we liberate the yin-yang duality from its male-female entanglement, the better.
What I write may seem strange from the language of someone who teaches you lessons like belly dancing, feminine energy; but if you try to understand it deeply, if you feel that place beyond words, you can sense that the world order will evolve far beyond the male-female dilemma, into dilemmas such as organic intelligence-artificial intelligence.
Duality, opposition and complementarity will always show themselves here. From this duality, we will know the unity, the oneness. If the most important feature we own is our gender, the future will test us with it; seems to remember sex as a scourge of the past.
