How Can Dance Support Our Sexual Problems?

Most of us today are sexually traumatized. Especially since we grew up in a society where sexuality is tabooed and prohibited; Even if we are not directly harassed, we may be hurt in these matters in the family or around us. Whereas; I think the rates of sexual harassment are much higher than you think. One way or another, we got hurt.

This hurt was followed by the inability to form our relationship with sexuality like ourselves. Aside from being afraid of shame and sins, some of us disregard them and cannot have sex even though we want sex. Because the body does not forget, the body continues to live that old story and hurt.

To show that this continues, our body shows us menstrual problems, various emotional blockages, triggers, uneasiness, aches, nausea, spasms. Yes, you are here now and there is no danger here, but the body is still triggered. You haven’t calmed down the previous story yet because you haven’t digested what happened.

Worse still, abuses are often covered up in this society.

With the energy of hidden and concealment, the whole load becomes heavier.

Our experiences that were not properly supported and regulated in time affect our day more than we think. It’s always a good idea to get support from experts for this.

It is very important to find the solution to the hurt of the body by taking the body inside. At this point dance; it can step in with its tribal archaic consciousness and artistic field.

Starting to touch our body with dance, teaching it a new language can yield great results, since the underlying problem stems from touching and the memory of touch. When the body chooses to freeze in the pain we cannot bear, dance can offer a gentle way to reinvigorate it. Finding ways to simply connect to the body, perceiving what our body likes and dislikes, and slowly opening the doors of our creativity; It can ease our process.

Day by day, somatic (bodily) studies began to be more and more involved in the field of psychology. While trying to understand the human being, we started to perceive that it is not logical to examine him independently of most of his body, namely his body, and that the body gives a lot of information about our psychology.

And if our body reflects our psychology, we can touch our psychology through this reflection. Through the body, we can go to our mood, to the remnants of our memories, to places that have left their mark on us and heal them. The mind sometimes cannot interpret it, cannot understand what is going on. But in the body, what still happens, and we know that something is happening.

Dance allows the body to heal and purify itself. We can better see the blocked areas in the movement and find ways to flow through them with certain techniques.

Especially dances that involve the pelvis in the movement can be our support. The pelvis, which is the center of our sexual energy; When animated with fluctuating and trembling movements, we can open our blocked areas to feel again. Letting ourselves be immersed in music and allowing the body to activate itself is the best method we can do.

If we can’t do this alone, we can join a group, go to a concert or a wedding. We can adapt more easily in an environment where everyone is in dance energy.

Even going to a techno party and dancing with our feet on the ground can work.

I think it’s best to dance around and gently create openings instead of pointing directly at the problem itself, I’m experiencing it. Dance is also a kind of “making love”.

A person can also make love to music and emotions in dance.
