Our Potential Needs the Body to Manifest
The body is far more complex than we realize; even experts and medical scientists constantly revise their knowledge and replace it with new perspectives. Science defines the continuous circulation of information until we discover new and more advanced truths. What we know is expanding every moment, giving way to new understandings. The body, though we touch and feel it with our five senses, remains largely unknown, continuing to occupy a vast part of our existence with its mysteries.
When we engage in sports, dance, or yoga, we often believe that what we are working on is simply muscle, and the entire popular fitness industry is based on this muscle development (or rather, its appearance). As long as we continue to think of ourselves as mere collections of muscles, we fail to perceive our depth and miss the richness within us. Every movement I make is a movement of every cell inside me, and this means much more than what we know. Although my body is right here with me, my knowledge of it is very limited. We could say that the body is an unknown that I can delve into, getting closer to it moment by moment.
Finding a way to explore this unknown is one of the most enjoyable journeys we can grant ourselves in life. I always say: rather than seeking spirituality in faraway places, when we start looking for it within our own bodies, we are more likely to achieve both worldly function and spiritual fulfillment. The world demands movement from us; it asks us to be in our bodies and to act with our bodies. The psychological well-being we long for, that inner strength, the ability to keep going, the sensitivity, or whatever else it is we desire—all of it develops when we start working with the body. So, a piece of information I read in a book can be understood from a much deeper and more grounded perspective when I spend time with my body, and I can also apply it.
Is there a formula for how we can spend time with our bodies? Of course, there is. Although this formula allows for creativity and subjective additions, when we focus on body awareness within certain frameworks, the nervous system begins to develop day by day. In other words, through certain methods, we can touch the internal spaces of the body that we hadn’t physically reached before, and realize how richly layered our inner world is. People often think I’m being abstract when I say this, but I’m talking about a real, physical sensation. The result of this physical sensation is, of course, also touching our spirituality, but in a more reliable way.
Working on our sensory awareness and doing so by connecting with our inner world simply increases our intelligence on earth. Being able to perceive how much space I take up in space-time, where my movement exists in terms of coordination, where my action is directed and what it touches—these offer a person the ability to harness their potential.
Without connecting to the body, a person cannot realize their potential. The body is necessary for potential to manifest.
Ideas need a medium to flow into the world, and they require the action that this medium produces.
Whether we like it or not, whether we want it or not, whether we suffer the pain of existence or don’t care at all—we are subject to the reality of the body. The sooner we come to terms with this, the easier life becomes. Research has proven that depression rates can be reduced by 80% through exercise alone. While we may understand this when we get up and move, it remains a distant piece of knowledge when we sit still—removed from us.
Being distanced from our body will give rise to pain. Reducing that distance is the key to truly living here, something we can never grasp while sitting still…
So, what are you waiting for to start moving? Are you waiting for things to be solved while you sit there? Keep waiting. Life continues to flow through movement.
