Founder of Dance.Yin (Dans Odaklı Dişil Enerji®), Performing artist BA,
Somatic Dialogue Facilitator,Dance and Movement Therapist MA
Hello, I am Buse Çetin.
I am the founder and instructor of Dance-Oriented Yin Energy.
I encountered with dance very spontaneously when I was 7 with traditional dances, during time with the offerings of dance teachers to train me, I decided to accept dancing as a profession. I was accepted with a full scholarship to Istanbul Bilgi University’s Performing Arts Department. Throughout my university education, I studied various fields including dance/movement techniques, acting, diction, ballet, contemporary dance, contemporary theatre, experimental theatre, bodies and technologies, yoga for dancers, contact improvisation, the history of performing arts, creativity-focused studies, somatic practices. Additionally, during my undergraduate years, I participated in many body-centered workshops such as Skinner Releasing Technique, Axis Syllabus, Mikusano Mitakara, and Bones For Life.
To enrich my vision and mission in dance, I completed my Breath Coaching and Life Coaching training outside of academia. During my training as a Qi gong-based Yin Yoga instructor, I dived deeper into more esoteric perspectives on Tao philosophy, the body’s energy points, meridians and chakras, and the elements.
I have diligently updated my knowledge in body and health through Functional Anatomy and Connective Tissue-Fascia Anatomy trainings. After theoretically covering connective tissue, I practically researched how to maintain fascia health with dance which becoming more popular because of understanding the importance more today.
By exploring yin-yang duality both theoretically and within movement, I have clarified that the concept of yin (in some sources: feminine) energy defines a meaning much more beyond and complex than ‘femininity’. I have developed specific practices and suggestions on how to embody yin energy within movement during dance.
Since 2015, I have completed my practitioner training in the Somatic Dialogue® technique, my primary source of movement. Somatic dialogue enables a person to connect with their spine, body, touch and authentic movement through improvisation techniques.
During my master’s in Dance and Movement Therapy, I had the opportunity to further study body-oriented therapy techniques recognized in scientific approaches such as Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Body Therapies, Kestenberg Movement Profile, Moving Cycles, etc. I also improved my knowledge in clinical psychology, neurological diseases, and anatomy.
I wrote my master's thesis on "Belly Dance, Dance Movement Therapy & Sexuality". While incorporating belly dancing into dance therapy, I researched how we can live our sexuality to support our relationship. At the same period, I created the Belly Dance Therapy® method.
In a therapeutic field, I worked as a dance and movement therapist at Istanbul University – Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Social Psychiatry Service. I offered group dance movement therapy to patients who have diagnosed with various psychiatric illnesses.
I never stop learning and continue to research new movement terminologies, even during my busiest periods. I continue to participate as a participant in areas such as International Gaga-Dancers, Human Animal, flamenco, Rolfing and urban dances in order to renew myself.
In my over ten-year-long career as a dance instructor, I have been offering courses under the name Dance.Yin (Dans Odaklı Dişil Enerji in Turkish) since 2019. These courses are designed to support participants discover their yin quality within the body by connecting through mostly belly and pelvis movements, building bridges in between their mind and body, alleviate chronic pains and other physical problems, and create homeostasis for their being.
To offer structured training and sessions to help the participants to realize that dance is not created with too much effort but rather it is created spontaneously when they connect with their yin qualities. And to open spaces for thinking, questioning, sharing and healing the philosophy of our bodies.
The unity and singularity of the body and beyond-body sensations in a dance experience. To embody the feeling which consciousness floating into the body to connect with the whole. And then movement soul might be visible in the reality of physical world.
