Belly Dance Therapy (Göbek Dansı Terapi®) is a therapeutic method personally offered by Buse, created through the integration of dance movement therapy and both improvisational and technical practices of belly dance.
Like in the Deepening with Belly Dance curriculum or Somatic Dialogue (Somatik Diyalog®), these sessions utilize improvisational techniques, enriched with layers from dance therapy methods. These may include self-reflection, free writing, meaning-making or playing with meaning, focusing on specific topics through movement, and creating new alternatives or solutions through relational engagement. The sessions use belly dance as a tool to support the following areas:
Chronic pain (especially in the back, neck, and joints)
Menstrual problems (irregularities or painful periods)
Issues with body image
Reconnecting with sensuality and sexuality
Disconnections in experiencing feminine energy
Feelings of shame or guilt
The need to feel safe and comfortable in the body
Physical blockages or stiffness
Support for specific needs sensed in the body
Exploration of creativity and self-expression
Inability to take action, imbalances in life force
Or any other topic not listed here that you feel in your body, which we can explore together in the sessions.
These sessions are supportive in nature and occur through movement. While verbal sharing is included, the primary focus is to explore these topics within the movements and the dance itself. It is helpful to think of these sessions as an additional support to your existing treatment or therapy processes.
If you are not experiencing any particular issue but still wish to work with Belly Dance Therapy®, you are more than welcome to do so. Together, we can find a direction for your work.
To fully embody the process, it’s important to dedicate time to it with consistency. However, you are free to determine the frequency and duration of the sessions according to your own circumstances.
Session duration: 60 minutes
The Spirit Is Willing, the Flesh Is Wise
Some say that body
in comparison to Spirit
—is less.
As if that done in longing
and sexual desire
—were less
than that chosen out of
Reason and by Moral Will.
But desire displays
courage and wisdom
when Will and Reason
cower and shrink and
dare not to serve Life.
In the Desire of the Flesh
hides a higher reason
and burns a deeper meaning outshining rationality and overpowering the will.
Desire is closer to the Heart of life, more obedient,
and more enduring.
It is the flesh that rules the will.
I say, The Spirit is willing,
but The Flesh is Wise.
