Your Belly Knows the Truth

Even though we like to think of ourselves as free and independent individuals, the information we unconsciously absorb from society clouds our minds and reflects in our bodies. And while you may think you have control over your body, your unconscious manifests itself in your body, trying to become visible through various symptoms.

This reflection in your body, especially in societies like ours where sexuality is taboo, shows common signs. Fatigue, lack of sexual desire, menstrual problems, muscle aches, nausea… You’ve probably already considered that these physical issues may have an emotional foundation.

Restrictions affect each of us differently. Some close themselves off in fear, some feel scattered, some feel lost, and others open up excessively in defiance. Yet, in the end, we all give some kind of “reaction” that doesn’t truly belong to us. Imagine if you lived in a world where sexuality and sexual orientation were properly explained, where you were free and supported to explore—your discoveries could be truly your own, and you would decide which direction to go.

But in a society full of hidden and secretive taboos, it’s natural that your body might not know how to behave.

Suppressing your sexuality means suppressing your life force. As we know, libido doesn’t just define sexual energy; it defines our life force. Our sexual energy and libido are deeply intertwined. When I speak of sexual energy here, you know I’m not only referring to the desire to have sex, but also to creativity, the joy of producing, pleasure, enthusiasm, continuity, and connection.

All of these are abilities related to your sacral chakra, to your belly.

Since we cannot deny how the collective unconscious affects our thoughts, the best way to start freeing yourself is through the most tangible place: your own body. Sometimes, you may struggle to distinguish whether your thoughts are right or wrong. Are these thoughts really yours, or did you learn them from somewhere else? Can you truly tell the difference?

Working with your body makes you uniquely yourself, helps you draw closer to yourself, and allows you to live your truth as you discover it.

To do this, you can connect with your lower body through belly and pelvis-centered dances, and in doing so, you experience healing that moves from the body to the soul or from the body to the mind.

Of course, reading and writing aren’t enough for this. You need to engage in physical activities to fully perceive your body, your worldly existence. Dance is the most ancient method for perceiving the body from within; humanity has been dancing since before language existed.

The liberation of the lower parts of your body—your belly and hips—through dance will help you feel more at ease in this world and more secure in your body. Those thoughts constantly flying around will finally realize, “Here we are.”

You won’t have to try to be present anymore. Your hips and belly will already keep you here and now.

They know where you are.

They know the world.

You’ll find your truth not in your thoughts, but down below.

It’s not your mind that knows the truth; your belly does.
